Attention 1a) If higher solar power is connected, the controller will limit the input power to 220W at 12V and 440W at 24V respectively. 1b) The panel voltage must exceed the battery voltage by +5V for the controller to start. Then the minimum panel voltage is the battery voltage +1V.

Ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)

Especially in cloudy conditions, when light intensity is constantly changing, an ultra-fast MPPT controller will improve energy harvest by up to 30% compared to PWM (pulse width modulation) charge controllers, and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.

Load output

• Over-discharge of the battery can be avoided by connecting all loads to the load output. The load output will disconnect the load when the battery has been discharged to a predetermined voltage.
• Alternatively, smart battery management algorithm can be chosen: see Battery Life.
• The load output is protected against short circuits.

Battery Life: intelligent battery management

When a solar charge controller cannot fully recharge the battery in one day, it often results in the battery constantly alternating between a “partially charged” and a “completely discharged” state. This mode of operation (full recharge on an irregular basis) will damage lead-acid batteries within weeks or months. 

The Battery Life algorithm will monitor the battery’s state of charge, and if necessary, will slightly increase the load disconnect level day by day (disconnect the load earlier), until the solar energy produced is sufficient to recharge the battery to nearly 100% of its capacity. From there, the load disconnect level will be modulated so that a near 100% recharge is achieved at least once a week.
